Mobile in the Enterprise

Companies worldwide are increasingly incorporating mobile technology and applications into their operations to increase productivity and revenue and reduce paperwork.

Forty-three percent of businesses are planning to increase their mobile use in the future, and by 2015, it’s expected that half of all devices on corporate networks will be mobile devices.

At Paper Bag we are certainly seeing this trend as we are currently working on a very interesting Blackberry Enterprise Application for an insurance provider in London which is aimed at reducing paper work and increasing productivity.

The BBC apprentice app episode: Recap & Thoughts…

Last night’s BBC Apprentice task was all about designing, developing, publishing and marketing a Mobile Application in 2 days. The Boys and Girls faced up to each other for the second consecutive time delivering the apps on Blackberry, Android and Nokia. Incidentally, Apple declined to take part as it seemed that getting an app approved and live the same day was a straight up ‘No chance’. So, the team with the highest number of downloads over 24 hours would become the winner.

As expected the apps were very basic giving the time constraints with both teams opting for humour based soundboards.  The Boys went for ‘Slangatang’ (regional accents) and the Girls came up with ‘Ampi Apps’ (irritating noises).

Suntimes for Windows Phone 7 goes live on the Marketplace

Paper Bag have been granted early access to the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace and are very happy to announce that our first app called Suntimes is now live.

Suntimes debuted on the iPhone and calculates the times for Sunrise (Dawn), Noon, Sunset (Dusk) of your current location leveraging the built-in GPS.

Microsoft UK TechDays Special: The Future of Cloud Development

Today I attended a conference in London by Microsoft entitled ‘The Future of Cloud Development’ with the Keynote speaker being Steve Ballmer himself (http://yfrog.com/jnnj0pj and http://yfrog.com/j3o4uuj) followed by talks on Windows Phone 7, Windows Azure, Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 9.

Paper Bag’s primary interest in this conference was around Windows Phone 7 and Windows Azure which I briefly spoke about as part of my blog on BizSpark.
